If you’ve come across any articles on healthy living, you must have noted that quite a number of them suggest watching less television, and just getting more involved with life. One would understand why such a strong argument is presented. Sitting down all day is does harm in more ways than one. But should you forego the habit of getting comfortable in the couch with the remote in hand on a lazy weekend? Perhaps you shouldn’t, as it turns out.
The entertainment television and other digital media provide is necessary for adding some value into our lives. It’s the easiest means of catching up on news and world events. These topics do come in handy in social situations when you need a common ground to connect with different people. Then there is the entertainment that stimulates the conscious mind. Movies and music fall in these category and these have the power to occupy one’s attention so completely. They provide a distraction from daily routine. The advantage with this is that it takes away the sameness of activities that we have to carry every day.
An hour of TV watching is therefore not bad (only if the time is available, of course). It may be a distraction, but is one that we can never do away with regardless.
